Eat Local Food heads back to School

We’ve been encouraged by the recent announcements of the USDA regarding their national “Know your Farmer, Know your Food” campaign. We’re also excited about the work of our local farm to school programs. Some of the goals of Farm to School programs are to connect local farmers with school food directors, to encourage healthy eating in school food programs, and to educate children about nutrition and healthy eating habits. Farm to School programs across the country are doing amazing work. With the alarming rates of childhood obesity and diabetes in our country, programs such as these are critical to educating students on leading healthier lifestyles.

At Eat Local Food, we had a recent opportunity to work with the Michigan Farm to School initiative and to design banners for a local school district. This work inspired us to commit to having our own “Farm to School” designs. We are working to add to our Farm to School designs and to develop products that support healthy eating habits and educate children about fruits and vegetables.

Over the next few months, we will be adding these products to our on-line web store. We welcome your feedback and input on our efforts. If you have a Farm to School program in your community, please consider getting involved! Your participation is needed and will be greatly appreciated.
